Profiling, Straightening/Repair, Welding, Filling and Paint Preparation - Wheel Repair Leeds
The edge/lip of the wheel is profiled using grinder and sander to remove kerb damage and provide a clean defined rim before painting. Face of wheel may require sanding either manually or with orbital sander to provide sufficient clean surface. Traces of residual paint may still need to be removed, if so this is only done on face of wheel, i.e. residual paint may still be visible on back or well. Any other major imperfections are tried to be removed or smoothed out, and the face of wheel, depending on style, will be sanded to provide as smooth a surface as possible.
Large chunks or dents can be filled using a special putty mixture, which is baked and then shaped accordingly. The end result is never perfect but can be visually more acceptable than before. This is an extra cost and process. After Filling the wheel can be painted as before.
Wheels that have slight misshaping, are bent, cracked or buckled may be able to be straightened/repaired/welded, it is never perfect but can be good enough to make the wheel serviceable and usable. This is assessed on a per wheel basis, and the end result is never guaranteed. We use a specially developed hydraulic ram press along with high heat to try and reshape wheels; there will be a mark and change in colour where the reshaping took place, if on back of wheel which cannot be seen this can be done without any stripping, blasting or re-painting. But if on front then the job is a lot more intense. Again all this is an extra cost to the basic service.
Notes;
The visual finish of any alloy wheel refurbishement (Leeds) is never guaranteed, we try our best with all wheels throughout the processes, but some just cannot be made to look any better. With straightening, profiling and filling the wheels usually has damage we are trying to cover up or repair, but in general the wheel will never be as new again. No guarantee under any circumstances is given to the profiling, straightening or filling process/finishes.
